Lake Mead To Get More Water This Year

One of the main reservoirs in the Colorado River water system will get more water this year, according to federal officials. But the additional water that will be sent to Lake Mead won't be enough to pull the reservoir, behind Hoover Dam, back from near-record lows.

Those levels have the attention of water managers, farmers and cities throughout the region who depend on the lake for some of their water supply amid an ongoing drought.

There’s been near-normal runoff this year into Lake Powell, upriver from Lake Mead. That will allow The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to send 10 percent more water to Lake Mead than they did the past year.
